Book Reviews
I'm not a fan of romance or historical fiction, but “Touch of Magenta” is a compelling read, even for people like me who like their fiction straight forward and relevant. I finally got a chance to read it while visiting my daughter and couldn't wait to get back to the motel each evening to devour some more.
“A great read!” That is about the best thing a reader can say about a book. And that is exactly what “Something in Stone” by Linda Loveland Reid is! This is the tale of six childhood friends who drift apart and come back together throughout their lives. Reid intricately weaves the story together and caps it off with a riveting ending!
The people in this book became real to me, as if they were friends or family. I care about them even now. The story-line is incredibly intriguing. "A touch of Magenta" is a true page-turner. You WANT to read everything Linda Loveland Reid writes because she "owns" the art of writing.
You will want to set aside a special time to immerse yourself in Linda Loveland Reid’s newest book, “Something in Stone”. Once inside this encapsulated story, you will enter the world of a small society, gradually forming your own attachments to each member of this group of friends as they move through their lives, disengaging and reengaging, each woman’s life as mysterious as the runes of their collective childhood.
“A Touch of Magenta” held me glued to it for the day-and-a-half-or-so that it took me to read it! (Yes, even while eating occasionally.) A story for women, but would also appeal to men. Loyalty, adventure, the pulls of true love, mystery. Heroin addiction and fighting successfully OUT of heroin addiction. The 1906 earthquake! Don't miss this tender, gripping tale.
While reading “Something in Stone” by Linda Loveland Reid, I couldn’t help but be transported back to the teen years in my small hometown. Those young women could have been me and my friends, keeping secrets, trying to find ourselves. It kept me captivated page after page.
